Wings to Fly

by: Emma Mooney

Scotland, 1980

Cathy Munro is not like the other girls in her small town. Inquisitive and full of spirit, she sets out on a mission to talk to God in the hope of securing her place in Heaven. So when the miracles she prays for start to happen, she’s sure she’s on the right track.

But then she notices her mother is acting strangely and avoiding her questions.

And why is everyone determined to stop her becoming friends with the boy next door? Could it be because he goes to a different school?

Cathy soon learns that her miracles have consequences, and that life isn’t as simple as she’d once thought.

Set in Scotland in the 1980s, Wings to Fly is a moving story about a young girl trying to find her place in a divided world.

A new, gripping tale from the bestselling author of A Beautiful Game.

Emma lives in Scotland with her husband and three children, and at weekends she likes to drag her family up the hills and mountains to escape the madness down below. She grew up in Scotland in the 1980s and spent her Saturday afternoons in the record department, and the pick ‘n’ mix aisle of Woolworths. She’s happy to admit she was once a Madonna fan, and owned a pair of black lace gloves and several oversized crucifixes. Her teenage years were the inspiration behind her second novel, Wings to Fly. Her debut novel, A Beautiful Game, follows the story of Robbie MacFarlane. Robbie is a disappointment to his father. Named after the top striker of Hearts Football Club, his dad calls him their lucky mascot, but Robbie has two left feet and secretly spends his time in the world of books. His dad says books are for girls. Emma is not a football fan and, to her, it doesn't matter which teams win or lose, but she does care about young people and it's this passion that inspired her to write A Beautiful Game.Emma has completed courses in creative writing at both Glasgow and Edinburgh University, and this year she joins the MLitt Creative Writing programme at the University of Stirling.Find Emma at www.emmamooney.co.uk
